A Beginners Guide to Roulette

Roulette is a very simple game that involves a table with a spinning board marked with numbers and a small ball. The object of the game is to guess the number where the ball will land. If the player guesses correctly, he or she will win certain amount of money depending on the bet placed. While roulette can appear like a game of chance, there are strategies of winning in the game.

However, you should first educate yourself on the basics of roulette. If you know the basics, you will be able to use the different strategies at different times depending on the play.

The first thing to remember is that each roulette spin is independent of any other spin. The ball can land on any number or color, but this does not mean that there is a pattern to it. If a ball lands on the same color many times consecutively, it most probably is just coincidence.

The aim of roulette is to guess which number the ball will land on. The player basically plays against the dealer, who also has the responsibility of spinning the wheel, releasing the ball onto the wheel and then paying out the winning bets.

There is European roulette that has numbers from 1 to 36 and one 0, while the American roulette has numbers from 1 to 36 and two slots for zeroes, namely 0 and 00.

On a roulette table, around 8 players can play at a time. Their money is changed to chips and each player gets a different colored chips. On the online version, there are no colors as just one player plays per table.

The players have to place their bets on the table. They can bet on a number, two, three, four, five, six or 12 number, or on one color, either red or black, of a particular number, or on an odd or even number or whether the number will be big or small. The big numbers are from 19 to 36, while the small numbers are from 1 to 18.

The dealer will first spin the wheel and only after that release the ball onto the wheel. When the dealer announces that no more bets will be accepted, no player is allowed to place any bets. As soon as the ball lands on a number, the dealer will announce the number, place a marker on the table corresponding to that number and then collect on the bets placed and pay out the winning bets. If a player loses his or her bet, the money goes to the casino.

The most important part of roulette is placing the bets. If you bet on a single number, it is called a straight up bet. Here the winner is paid at an odd of 35 to 1. If a player bets on two numbers, it is called a split bet. If any of the number wins in a split bet, the player is paid 17 to 1.

A row bet is when a player bets on three numbers at the edge of a row. If any of the numbers win, the player is paid 11 to 1.

There is also something known as the corner bet where the player bets on four numbers that are at an intersection. This type of bet pays 8 to 1.

The street bet is when a player bets at the edge of two rows where three numbers meet. This type of bet pays around 6 to 1. The column bet is another type of bet where the player bets at bottom of the column of 12 numbers and receives a payout of 2 to 1 in case he or she wins.

Similarly, a player can place bets on even number, odd number, on red or black numbers, on small numbers or high numbers. These bets pay at one to one.

Usually in roulette, there are many winning strategies that a player can adopt. However, more often then not, the odds always favor the house. Therefore, when playing online, it is in your interest to choose a casino that has been reviewed favorably by other players and has also been in business for a long time. Also, ensure that the online casino has secure mode of transaction for receiving and paying out money.

Once you know the basics and are well versed, you can then start looking at the different strategies to increase your odds of winning. Obviously, it goes without saying that you should always stick to a plan and if you have a losing streak and a depleted bankroll, you should stop playing before you end up losing your entire bankroll.
